The Billfish Foundation is proud to announce the new Winthrop P. Rockefeller Student Ocean Program Interns for Spring 2019. This initiative carries on Win’s vision of responsible ocean and fish stewardship by providing valuable work experience to selected students and recent graduates. Please welcome the new Winthrop P. Rockefeller Student Ocean Program Interns.

Katelin Cordero, a rising junior undergraduate from the University of Miami, FL, is concentrating on Marine Affairs and Ecosystem Science & Policy. Hailing from Philadelphia, she is working on creating content for our two youth publications, Sailfish and Spearfish. She is currently finalizing a project with TBF with TBF’s extensive recapture records to identify any correlation with conservation zones. She will also be engaged in outreach, looking at the amount of effort billfish anglers have had in marine protected areas, and sharing information about the socio-economics of sportfishing in South Florida.

Katie Lizza, a recent master’s graduate of the University of South Florida, will be working on developing new and creative ways to engage the public on TBF’s mobile application (which will be relaunched soon). With a large portion of people now with smart phones and utilizing that more than their computers, Katie’s project will provide new avenues for people to become involved. She will also develop outreach materials to create awareness of the mobile application so crews can enter their data online.
